HURRICANE KATRINA: AUGUST 29th, 2005 - 19th Anniversary the most deadly and costly of all tropical storms

In the weeks leading up to what would become a day that will never be forgotten in the Gulf South life went on as a normal summer. It was hot, sweltering, humid like always. Most people were gearing up for yet another College Football and NFL Season. Schools began to get back going.
When the National Hurricane Center started making announcements about a potential deadly hurricane on the scene it was like life had suddenly halted. As Hurricane Katrina formed over the Atlantic just off the southern cost of Florida things began to look very concerning.
As the storm grew in size later to become one of the largest in recorded history spanning a majority of the Gulf of Mexico. With outlying bands stretching back into the Atlantic as it cuts across the Everglades of Florida it was not looking a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
When the storm system reached the Gulf of Mexico, the West Coast of Florida, things started take a turn for the absolute worse. As it tracked for a good few days it appeared to be going due west until the dreaded point that it’s track shifted to a more northerly turn.
The people and the State of Louisiana and Mississippi were put on high extreme notice. As usual most people in Louisiana took the generational approach to storms, Ride It Out. This was not going to be one of those normal storm. As I personally look back in my mind’s memories I began to swell up with tearful emotions just remembering the horrific nightmare that was being displayed on television and spoken of on the radio.
The catastrophic devastation that was displayed was not only mind blowing but heartbreaking.
Seeing the city of New Orleans under water, a city that I grew to love because of the NFL Franchise, the New Orleans Saints was devastating. Seeing the roof peeled away and knowing that people sough refuge inside then hearing of the gut-wrenching accounts of some things left unmentionable that happened. It was indeed the saddest moment in my life.
The other saddest moment to be learned about is the purposeful flooding of the Lower 9th Ward by the US Army Corp of Engineers to save the Upper Wards. Knowing how poor these people were and spent all their lives saving up and building, and raising their family just to have it all washed away was a flood of tears moment.
Knowing there was a lot of people that would die and their bodies will be floating in the water after the storm passed was an even greater emotional wrecking. I cannot show those pictures here because they disturb me.
The Nation focused heavily on New Orleans because of several events that transpired. The whole squabble about not having enough aid and assistance by then President, George W. Bush and his FEMA head, Michael Brown. Then the whole New Orleans Chief of Police Eddie Compass ordered police and National Guard units to confiscate firearms from civilians who remained in the area. That was when the whole sequence of events took a dark and evil turn.
During the aftermath of then, the largest & most powerful Hurricane to ever make landfall on the U.S. Mainland (AUGUST 29TH) the largest Criminal Treason & Sedition against our Constitution & Bill of Rights by the following; N.O.P.D. New Orleans Police Department, Orleans Parish Sheriffs Department, surrounding Parish Law Enforcement and the Federal Government (multiplicity of agencies and departments). For many decades people have said, “They’ll never come for our Guns”. Well, the did in 2005. Elderly, Women, Veterans alike were all treated like Convicted Criminals in their own homes. The blatant self-inflicted ignorance of Americans is overwhelming. Blind trust in all of government is repulsive. The the arrogance of those in government (ALL) is disgustingly abhorrent. A very slim minority did get their firearms back but the majority did not. Those UNLAWFULLY confiscated firearms were dissembled and melted down. Some were even old historical relics passed down from many generations.
If that was not the kicker, what would be a gut punch to all is when Clergy seemingly had no restraint of their own mouths. F.E.M.A. Pastors Invoke Romans 13: During Hurricane Katrina 2005. Caddo Parish Chaplin, Rev. Tuberville invokes a perversion of Romans Chapter 13 Verse 1 implying that we are to temporarily give up our God Given Constitutional Rights and also implies that we can somehow re-gain those Rights back once we surrender to a government. NOTE: There is no amount of negotiations will ever make that happen. This is the stupidity that has captured the American Christian Church. Then at the very end of the segment; the local television anchor-woman mentions in reference to F.E.M.A. ‘and at Eight Different Camps’.
That being said about the New Orleans and Louisiana side of the storm, Mississippi sustained even greater damage as to tidal surges and wind. Poor Waveland, Mississippi took the brunt of the eye dead on.
Waveland previous in their history dealt with one of the most devastating and deadly hurricanes, Camille August 17th, 1969. The Mississippi Coast took on most of the damage and laid waste to the once prosperous tourist locations from Biloxi to Pascagoula, Mississippi. The beauty of this scenic route was forever altered.
Mississippi’s iconic Lighthouse, she was a tough one and has weathered many hurricanes in the past and she’s proven her worth as an icon of icons.
Her light still shines brighter after 19 years after it was almost blown out. She was a rally point and encouragement to Mississippians for unity and strength to be resilient. Unlike our Louisiana neighbors we forge on in our recovery without much troubles. We did our part in assisting and giving aid as much as we could to them.
The wake of devastation reached far inland and all the way to the Mississippi River. Electrical Power Companies had never seen an emergency of this enormous size and scope. It took some people 3 weeks to 5 weeks for power to be restored. Some took months. The level of out of State assistance to them was huge. Some companies and co-ops all the way from Kentucky arrived. Some even from Texas. The outpouring of aid from Churches and other organizations was a Godsend.
Lessons were indeed learned by all in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in so much a whole lot of things were changed in regards to emergency preparedness and how polices on execution of response. For those who did not participate in the unconstitutional confiscations in New Orleans who assisted the needy and for all First Responders, and for the first time ever the birth of the CAJUN NAVY. Hurricane Katrina killed an estimated 1,800 people, but it could have been far worse if not for what became known as "The Cajun Navy." Hundreds of people in hundreds of boats gathered in Lafayette, Louisiana, to rescue thousands trapped by floodwaters. "They announced, 'Anybody wants to go help the people of New Orleans please come to the Acadiana Mall,'" south Louisiana journalist Trent Angers said. "They expected 24, 25 boats. Between 350 and 400 boats and people showed up." (CBS)
After Hurricane Katrina, the CAJUN NAVY became an Official part of Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi’s Emergency Management Departments.
Cajun Navy Relief - Cajun Navy Relief Cajun Navy are informal ad hoc groups of private boat owners who assist in search and rescue efforts in the US after natural disasters. They are named after the Cajun people of Louisiana and have rescued thousands of citizens since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The CAJUN NAVY stays informal but an interictal part of the response efforts.
If there’s ONE ICONIC PICTURE that proves and shows the love that us regular folk Americans have for each other this one is by far it.
With that in closing: In these times we are indeed tested but more importantly, our true love for one another comes out and it shines bright. I really care not about what some foolish religious mouths say behind pulpits. We are more united in many ways than those in the religious and political like to even acknowledge. We must pray and seek God’s face in everything. We must practice the Golden Rule set forth by Jesus Christ. Love one another. Through thick and thin, we got to help each other in times like these. With that, God Bless everyone.
