When people think of what and who a Hero is they have many definitions and many qualifications. The one clear and true qualification that stand out above all; that is sacrifice. Sacrifice comes in many forms but the ultimate sacrifice of life is the truest form. We’ve had many in our past that gave us that truest form of sacrifice. Those are the ones that didn’t come home. From the beaches of Normandy and Omaha; to the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, to the rice patties of Vietnam you’ll find the Spirit of Sacrifice that is second to none.
We clearly have Heroes, they are forever etched in our memories and on our monuments to them. They’re dotted in hallowed fields with white stone. In our hearts we know them. In our minds we honor them. In our souls we cherish them for all eternity. They are our grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews that all served our beloved Country. Many families today remember their sacrifice. Many are still heartbroken. The love in our hearts and souls goes out to them all.
We cannot forget because if we do, we shall forget that we have the Freedom and Liberty we enjoy today. Just like the ultimate sacrifice that was given on a hill called Calvary of our Lord and Savior Yeshua Jesus Christ we certainly cannot forget those who’ve died in our stead. To the Gold Star Families, we so love each and everyone of you. While those in government that simply don’t care, we certainly do.
I’ll let the 40th President of these United States of America take it from here with his bold speech on WHY WE FIGHT. Here now is Ronald Wilson Reagan.
If this speech does not sum up everything that is about Memorial Day, I don’t know what will. President, Reagan had many faults but the biggest strong-suit he had was the skill of communication especially in times of great crisis; this is why he was named “The Great Communicator”.
Our Nation, our Country is severely lacking a Great Communicator in leadership. We’ve lost our way in remembrance and reverence. Our Veterans even though they haven’t given the ultimate sacrifice, they’ve given a sacrifice of themselves only to be neglected and uncared for. We honor them today as well. We love, respect, and honor them too. Most of all, those that lay in those hallowed grounds across America and especially in Arlington… today is all about them.
Those sloping hills of Arlington, that peaceful piece of property. What a place to gain a reality check and humility of consciousness. These places may be in this life the end but their Spirit of Freedom and Liberty lives on. Through the Patriotic Spirit of each of us that are of a respectful mind, reverent heart, and humbled soul we remember them all. Thanks to Trace Adkins we have a song that we can all call ourselves to remember even when it’s not this very day of memorial.
In closing; FEN lifts up all Gold Star Families this day and we humbly honor all who Gave All and stood through for the red, white, and blue giving the ultimate sacrifice. I would like to take this time personally to remember on real true Hero in my own life and that is my Uncle Jim. He was in the 101st. Airborne Division and was a Silver Star recipient and awarded two Purple Hearts for his service while in Vietnam. In 2013 he went home to Heaven after suffering through cancer (I strongly suspect being exposed to Agent Orange while in Vietnam). His body is at rest in the National Military Cemetery in Port Hudson, Louisiana. I also had a great-uncle who did not come home from WWI and his body is at rest at the very cemetery that Ronald Reagan spoke at.
I thank them on a daily basis even when I am not conscious of it.
REMEBER…SOME GAVE ALL…
John 15:13
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
